FIRST ANNUAL EXHIBITION.

IMPROVEMENT IN THE BREED

The National Bulldog Club of New Zealand has suspended its activities since the war, but they were revived on Saturday, when the first annual show of the new series was held, about 30 being present. Good entries were received and the judge, Mr. T. Francis, expregident of the Junior Bulldog Club of London, commented on the fine standard of the dogs and the great improvement in bulldog breeding made in New Zealand during the past three years.

A good deal of attention was focussed on Mr. J. Cumming’s Mackay, a four-year-old dog imported from Dr. Anderson’s kennels at Armadale, Scotland. Mr. Francis described this dog as one of the finest bulldogs in New Zealand. The following awards were made:—

Sylvia Park Cup.—S. H. Howie’s Broompark Boy.

Breeders’ Trophy.—Miss A. Lippincott’s Duchess Susanne.

Howie Cup.—Mrs. J. W. Cumming's Vlra Dhu.

Broompark Silver Cup.—J. W. Cumming's Mackay.

Baron Junior Cup.—Mrs. Cumming's Vira Dhu.

Mason Struthers’ Trophy.—J. W. Cumming’s Mackay. DOGS.
