ONEHUNGA MEMORIAL GATES.
When the Onehunga Citizens’ Fair, held last year, was concluded, there was a surplus of £3O after paying the amount owing on the new instruments for the Citizens’ Band, for which the affair was -held. This sum, together with £2O from the band, was donated towards the erection of soldier memorial gates at Jellicoe Park, Onehunga, at the Quadrant Road entrance. The memorial is to be made of red stone taken from the Mount Smart quarry. Since the committee was set up to carry out the scheme, with Mr. T. H. Ashe as secretary and treasurer, further donations have been received. When the committee has received another £25, giving them about £lOO in hand, they will make a start with the erection of the gates. The total cost is estimated at £250. The memorial was designed and a model presented by Mr. J. Park, architect.
