OLD BOYS’ GAME.
GRAMMAR BEAT HAMILTON. At the Domain on Saturday Grammar Old Boys' second grade team succeeded in beat ing Hamilton Old Boys’ colts by 11 points to 8, in a game that on a tine day might have proved good. In the rain, however, it developed into a mud scramble. Hamilton had the better of the game territorially, and were unlucky not to keep the lead they gained early in the game. The scorers were: For Grammar, Gillies and Rae, while Garlick kicked a penalty and converted a try; for Hamilton. Prosser (2), while Pratt converted one try. NORTH SHORE CLUB. At a social given by Mr. Vic. Brown, of Devonport, to ttie North Shore third fifteen, the host presented a gold medal to W. Brinsden, who, on a ballot of the team, had been adjudged the most improved player of the season. The club's coach, Mr. B. Jackson, and a life member, Mr. Bert Ensor, offered young players good advice on various aspects of the game, including their attitude towards referees. GAMES IN PROVINCE. OTAHUHU. Otahuhu third grade intermediate beat Kaipara junior representatives by 10 points. WAIHI. Hamilton High School 9, beat Waihi High School 0. TE KUFTI. The Te Kuiti representatives defeated the Auckland City Council team by 10 points to 8. The field was a quagmire. PUKEKOHE. The Pukekohe senior Rugby team defeated an Auckland junior rep., team on Saturday- by 13 points to U. The game was played in unpropitlous weather, insecure foothold and a greasy ball militating against good football. For the greater part play was confined to the forwards, while the backs, with a few exceptions, kept the ball at their feet. The game was more even than the scores indicate. For Pukekohe, Mills, Dazeley and Bishop scored tries, Brownlee and Howard converting one each. At Wesley College a game was played between a 'college fifteen and a team from the Ruakura State Farm. The game was very even, with Wesley College having slightly the better of it. The local side were unlucky not to make a draw of it, Kuakura winning by three points to nil—a goal from a mark by Gavegan. HA MILTON. In a representative game on Saturday Waikato beat Thames Valley representatives by 25 points to 0. The match was simply a walk over for the local team. WHANGAREI. Whangarei retained the Rugby premiership of the north on Saturday by deteating Bay of Islands by 22 points to 8 in the final Harding Shield game this season. The visitors’ chances were considered bright, and there was a crowd of 1500 at Kensington Park. The home side showed superiority in back play. Five minutes after the start Matene kicked a penalty goal for the Bay, but as the quarter ended Beere scored for Whangarei, Waterman converting. A blind side movement gave Waterman the next try, and he also kicked a penalty goal, making the half-time score, Whangarei 11, Bay 3. With a hurricane wind aiding them, the Bay went to the attack, and Wilson, by fast following up. scored. Matene converted. The visitors again attacked determinedly for a time, but tired, and were seldom in the picture during the final spell. For Whangarei Waterman kicked a penalty goal, and Britland scored, and just on time Miller executed a lovely cut-in. handing to Sligo, who got over. Waterman converted, and a good game ended : Whangarei 22, Bay of Islands 8. THAMES. The representative Rugby match between Thames and Morrinsville, played in continuous rain, was exciting and full of incident. When Morrinsville defeated Thames for the Peace Cup recently eonie supporters of Thames considered that the victory did not fairly reflect the strength of the Thames team, and a return match was accordingly arranged. The game, which did not involve the Peace Cup. ended in a draw, each side scoring an unconverted try. lIUNTLY. An Auckland junior representative team defeated a team representing the Lower Waikato by 32 points to 14. For Auckland tries' were scored by Burbridge (4). Menzies (2). Bell and Potter. Savory and Dodd converted one try each, while Pope potted a goal.
