NEW FIGHTING ’PLANES.
FOR USE AT SOCKBURN. SPEED OVER 150 MILES AN HOUR. (By Telegraph.—Own Correspondent.) CHRISTCHURCH, Sunday. Two new GJoster Grebe fighting ’planes have arrived at the Wigram aerodrome. Each is fitted with one 285 h.p. radial air-cooled Arm strong-Siddeley “Jaguar” engine, and is capable of a speed of more than 150 miles an hour. One of the machines is similar to the Grebe which has been in use at the Wigram aerodrome for some months, but the other is fitted with dual controls for instructional purposes. The second cockpit is placed well back on the fusilage. The new machines have not been assembled yet. They bring the number of planes up to 19. A Fairey 3F two-seater general purpose aeroplane with a Napier “Lion” engine, is expected to arrived before the end of the year. The two Moth machines which are to be used for elementary training are also due to arrive this year.
