TE AROHA NOTES.

injury'to queer arch.

At Wanganui on Saturday lasl Valkon was ridden right out in the Higgie Handicap. He was on the local tracks on Wednesday and apparently was little the worse for the southern racing. It is stated here that A. Cox and E Keesing have forwarded appeals to the Wanganui District €tommittee againsl their disqualification and they will be heard early next month. Nancy Lee, Black Maire, indolent Ruffles, Orchus, TaUrimu and the St. Amans gelding are now being worked by C. Mallowes, who also has a four-year-old Marble Arch mare in work. As a member of J. H. Wallace's team Valkon should do well, as he has been really well wintered. The stable has a very capable light-weight rider In Keith Gill, who rode two good races at Wanganui on Te Koroke. Twelve Te Aroha-trained horses were taken on the Marton-Wanganui tour and eight of them will carry the colours at Avondale. Queen Arch, which was expected to run prominently in the Avondale Cup, was kicked by one of the competitors at Wanganui and had to be withdrawn from her close-at-hand engagements. She may have recovered sufficiently to be raced next month. The Glen Albyn gelding Black Maire looks all the better for his southern racing and has fined down considerably. He has displayed plenty of vim in his track work since and should race well next month. His stable companion, Taurimu, also owned by Mr. J. McNicol, has not performed up to expectations. At present he is having a paddock rest and it is not certain whether he will be persevered with this season. The Morrinsville-owned Indolent seems to be improving gradually and now gallops with more freedom than he has done for some time. If he can be got to carry >his racing condition he promises to be a performer of merit. When Tea Time left for Marton he was in the pink of condition, but went off his feed and consequently did not run up to his track form. On previous occasions he has proved an excellent traveller, so the change is difficult to explain. The rather unfortunate happening resulted in the Tea Tray gelding being, withdrawn from his Avondale engagements. The Quin Abbey gelding, Ruflles, should soon be ready to repeat his best form, for he is looking big and muscular and in good heart. His track work, is quite satisfactory and presumably he will be one of the contingent from here to race at the Waikato meeting. Trainer G. A. Reid has Upoko and Lucy Rose at Avondale. Town Bird is having a 'let up" for a few days, and the other members of his string are doing well. Marble King seems to be going on the right way and has built up well during the past fortnight. Crown Arch and Glen Star leave nothing to be desired regarding their condition and the stable should get back to the winning list inWue couim King Lu failed to race well on the Wanganui course owing ,to its shape being against long-striding horses. He is expected to race better during the course of the Avondale meetinl, as, judging by his track' work here on Wednesday, he is in fine trim. The local tracks have been drying during the week. Love Call and Te Koroke were assoefcted in a spin over four furlongs, run fa 525, King W and Ripper over three furlongs in 395, and Valkon dashed freely over the same distance in a tick under 395. i Nancy Lee ran half a mil* in 525, continuing to the ive furlongs in 1,3 2-5. : Crown Arch md Glen Star executed good work over twice round and Marble King bounded ilong in good style over a round, indolent and Black Maire were given rtow work. Lucky Alice and William of Jrange, the two-year-olds, were allotted useful ta|ks. The full brother to raumai, ridden by Maguire, was sent tver five obstacles, jumping especially veil- and galloping freely once round. 3emg by -St.- Amans from a mare by Joniform—Natator mare, he is bred on urnping -lines. :
