WAITEMATA COUNCIL

Mr. A. M. Laing presided over tkc monthly meeting of the Waltemata County Council held to-day. Main Highways Classification.—Owing to Supreme Court judgment classification of main highways made by local bodies in respect of heavy traffic were rendered invalid. The Minister of Public Works has no wadvised that steps are being taken with a view to validating the classification of roads already made, and It wu loped that this could be done without causing farther e *P ense to local bodies in connection with the legal steps relating to roads already classified. Orewa Beach.—The Minister of Lu4i advised that the drainage of part of thf subdivision was being proceeded with, and that steps would be taken to eradicate noxious weeds on this estate, the flourishing of goree .having become a menace to adjacent freeholders. Castor Bay Park.—lt was reported that: a ratepayer adjoining the park had fenced his property, and it is found tbat bis title extended on to the beach, whereby at high water access to the park is cut off. It. was stated that some years aco the council granted a certificate to the effect that th-; beach was sufficient road access to the land subdivided, and in granting this the necessity for providing a road iu this particular subdivision was dispensed with.
