TROUBLESOME DURING PROBATION

"He has left his wife and child, has broken up the home of a respectable man and has committed a breach of his probation order," said Mr. Campbell, probation officer at the Police Court' this morning, in regard to Arthur G. Mould (26), who appeared on a charge of having stolen £42 from a grocer by whem he was lately employed as a roundsman. Evidence" was given that there were fifty cash customers on the round, and that a discrepancy in the accounts had been discovered after Mould had left his position. It wag stated that accused had not accounted fully for moneys paid to him by customers. In a written statement to a detective accused admitted that the sum might amount to £10, but would not exceed that. He said that he was one days pay in arrears when he severed his con - nection with his employer. Mr. Hunt. 6.M., asked the probation Officer regarding Mould's record. Campbell said accused was unreliable -and was most untruthful. He had been offered by a.married couple to go to the country, and had gone away with a woman to Wellington. He had also taken £9, which was the only money his mother had, and had been unsatisfactory in his conduct during hit probation of two vears.

Accused was sentenced to 12 months' reformative detention on the theft charge and convicted and discharged for a breach of his probation "order.
