NOTES FROM WAIKATO.

HORSES FOR AVONDALE. Komak, who is <?ne of R. A. Edwards team to race at Avondale in the first division of the Maiden Plate, has comc through a solid preparation. The Quit Abbey gelding has displayed nothing out of the way on the tracks from the time point of view, but is vyy well. Flying Juliet, who is to race with tht sprinters to-morrow, reached Avondal* on Thursday afternoon. The Romec mare, who is being trained by R. A Edwards at Te Rapa this season, has been doing well in her track work, but it is doubtful if she is quite ready foi her best; although she is likely to be showing up for a goodly part of tomorrow's journey. P. Brady is to rid< her. Star Comet is to have his first race ol the new season in the Swanson Handi cap to-morrow. His track work at T( Rapa has not been of the prominent order, but he never does show up ir private. The Day Comet gelding may however, run a good race to-morrow, as the class is not- strong. Arikitoa, who is engaged in the second division of the Maiden Plate at Avondale to-morrow, was showing good fora towards the latter end of last season when he was trained at Te Awamutu The Warplane gelding is worth keeping in mind. Hangawera is all right so far as condition is concerned. The Chesterfield gelding, who is in the hurdles to-morrow, hasn't been putting much heart into his latest racing, and it will be a surprise if he wins. The Franklin horseman E. Warner is to ride Blago in the hurdles at Avondale to-morrow. Siaosi is to have his first start as a hurdler at Avondale to-morrow. The Elysian gelding has done a fair amount of work at Te Awamutu. but it is too early yet to pin much faith in him in the new department. Liaison, who figures in the Members' Handicap to-morrow at Avondale, is reported to have been doing fairly well in her track efforts at Te Awamutu. It is thought, however, that the Lord (Juex —Loveinatch filly will not be at her best until she lias had some racing. Paganelli is to keep his sprint engagement at Avondale to-morrow. This member of M. J. Carroll's team reached the scene this in companj

with Macroom and Kerry Dance. They have each done a fair amount of work, but racing should advance them considerably. Kingfield has gone well on a goft track in the past. The Cambridge sprinter, who is engaged to-morrow, has been working well, and he is likely to come in for s<pe support at the week-end. Papatu is engaged to-morrow in the concluding event, the Henderson Handicap.* The Romeo gelding may be tiring over the latter stages, as he has hardly had sufficient work to be at his best. Awarere will be started in the Flying Stakes at Avondale to-morrow. Provided the going is not too heavy, the Swift Flight chestnut should give a good account of himself, although he cannot be at his best with the measure of track work lie has had. Prodice has always proved more capable ill soft going than on top of the ground. The Catmint fillv may not prove equal to the best of the company in the sprint to-morrow, but the race is likely to work a big improvement in her for her Guineas engagement on the second day at Avondale.
