PERSONAL.

The Hon. E. W. Alison was a passenger for Wellington by train last evening. Mr. J. Seott, of Timaru, was a passenger to Auckland by this morning's Limited express from Wellington. Mr. R. W. Shallcrass (Wellington) and Mr. and Mrs. Cecil Marks (Melbourne) are staying at the Grand Hotel. Mr. W. Smith (Wellington), Mr. R. Johnston (Christchurch) and Mr. F. Barnett (Putaruru) are at the Albert Hotel. Mr. J. R. Taylor and Mr. A. Sly (London), Dr. and Mrs. J. Begg (New York) and Colonel and Mrs. Noel Adams (Clevedon) are at Hotel Cargen. Mr. R. C. McManus, Mr. and Mrs. J. Jordensen, Mr. C. Shaw, and Mr. E. Porter (Wellington), Major R. Addington (Levin) and Mr. J. R. Hooper (Sydney) are at the Star Hotel. Mr. M. J. Kalaugher, secretary of the New Zealand Freezing Association, who has been on a business trip to Wellington, returned to Auckland by the Limited express this morning. Mr. and Mrs. W. G. Emeny (New Plymouth), Mr. and Mrs. T. Mcintosh (Gisborne), Mr. C. P. Ting (Sydney) and Mr. and Mrs. C. Birch (Palmerston North) are at the Central Hotel. Mr. Gilbert Archey, curator at the Auckland Museum, left for Wellington by last night's express to attend a meeting of the Board of Maori Arts and Crafts. Canon C. H. Grant Cowen, vicar of St. Matthew's Church, is convalescing from his recent illness. He expects to be sufficiently recovered to conduct the 75th anniversary service in the church on Sunday evening. Mr. W. C. Taylor, assistant town clerk at Takapuna, who is visifrng Sydney, was last evening granted extended leave of absence by the council on account of an operation rendered necessary by war injuries. Mr. W. R. B. Oliver, director of the Dominion Museum, Wellington, who is to lecture at the University College this evening, on botanical gardens, arrived by the Limited express from Wellington this morning.
