RATEPAYERS' AFFAIRS.
MOUNT ROSKILL SOUTH.
AMALGAMATION WITH CITY.
The Mount Roskill South Ratepayers' Association has adopted the principle of amalgamation with the city, as it has been found that the formation of a separate borough is impracticable. A meeting of the association was held last evening, Mr. J. R. Robertson presiding. The chairman stated that the City Council was prepared to accept the area. Petitions were in circulation, and were being signed by large numbers of ratepayers, asking that the area might be permitted to secede from the Mount Roskill Road District, and thus escape the unjust burden of rating on unimproved value imposed upon the rural area of Mount Roskill. The rates collected were not spent proportionately, but were lavished on the settled urban area. It was decided to ask the Road Board to Approach the Postmaster-General for better postal facilities and for a slot telephone near the new school; to provide water reticulation in Ridge Road; to form a footpath along May Road from Mount Albert Road to Richardson Road; and to ask the Power Board to reticulate White Swan Road.
