PROBATIONER TEACHERS.
METHOD OF SELECTION. EDUCATION DEPARTMENT'S PROPOSALS. In connection with the selection of probationers for next, year the Education Department informed the Auckland Education Board'that the Auckland district's quota would be 165, but that the number might be slightly exceeded. Mr. T. B. Strong, Director of Education, submitted a scheme for selection of probationers and asked for an opinion on it. He said tile detailed workir of the scheme would be as follows:— ..(1) The board receives appl ■ by November 30. (-2) Candidate A*" and "B" grades would be me. -x-' amioed before the end of the id, perhaps also examined for gent ibility by the senior inspector ay 1 report to the board. (3) The i suitable candidates of all grade then be sent by the board to the . ment. (This is necessary in or.. carry out the plan outlined in 11. and 111. above.) (4) The Department, as soon as possible, would telegraph the names of. the candidates who have been awarded higher leaving certificates. (5) Th& board would then proceed.to appoint all the "A" grade candidates who are otherwise qualified. (6) Jf the. district quota, is not: filled by the. appointment of "A" candidates the board would proceed to make a selection from the local list of "B" candidates and from surplus "B" candidates from other districts. The Department will give assistance here. (?) When the "B" list is exhausted the "C" list would be resorted to, and the same procedure followed as outlined in (6) above.
It was decided that the matter be left in the hands of the chairman and secretary to formulate a reply.
