CROSSING THE BAR.
TUTANEKAI STRUCK BY HEAVY SEA. DECK FITTINGS DAMAGED. CABINS FILLED WITH WATER. The weather on the West Coast has been very bad during the last few day*. and the shipping on the Manukau has been disorganised in consequence. Tlie Government steamer Tutanekai experienced very rough weather when crossing the Kaipara Bar yesterday morning for Onehunga, at which port she arrived at 3 p.m. At about S aan. » heavy sea struck the vessel, and all the railings on the forward deck were either torn off or badly bent. All the ventilators on this deck were taken off and an awning was lost. Most of the cabins were filled with water, and some woodwork on the port side was smashed. Injuries were sustained by two firemen and they received medical attention at Onehunga. All the ship's company were glad when the vessel made fast to the Onehunga wharf after a very trying experience. The Rarawa was unable to leave Onehunga according to her time-table on Monday, and her departure did not take place until 10 a.m. yesterday for Nev* Plymouth. The Arapawa left at 4 p.m. for Eaglan and Kawhia. The Hauturu was unable io lea\e Raglan, owing to the bar being impassable.
