HOWICK TOWN DISTRICT.

REVIEW OF PAST YEAR. The , final meeting of tlic Howick Town Board before the.elections was held last evening. Mr. J. Crawford presided.

The annual report and balance-sheet ehowed that £240 had been expended on footpath construction and maintenance. The construction of roads had absorbed £233 and maintenance £268, while a further sum of £(54 had been spent on general maintenance. Main highway costs were about £003, of which £362 was due to subsidies. The rates were about £50 less than the previous year and the. heavy traffic fees about £83 less. Building fees and licenses increased by about £68. The. revenue for the year" was £1601 and the expenditure £1765. The year had been satisfactory from a building point of view, and the last assessment by the Valuation Department showed an increase of about £9000, due to new buildings and subdivisions.
