PAPATOETOE DEBATING SOCIETY.
FINAL TOURNAMENT. PRESENTATION TO PRESIDENT. The Papatoetoe I/iterary and Debating Society held its final tournament debate or the thirteenth session last evening. The ltev. T. H. Roseveare presided. Teams consisting of speakers selected from the previous three debates were: Affirmative: Messi-s. C. J. Mahon, X. Y. Atkinson and T. Atkinson. Negative: Miss Leah Roseveare, and Messrs. C. A. Moore and Eric C. Franklin. The subject was: "That Dominion of the World of White Races is Inevitable." At the conclusion of the debate, three adjudicators, Dr. A. B. Jameson, and Messrs. E. Vickery and N. Tnnnaelitfe, declared the negative the winners, and Mr. Moore the beet speaker in the debate. The arguments of the winning team were based upon the contention that coordinate control would be the solution of the racial problem, and the Kellogg Peace Pact and recent conferences of representatives of the white and coloured races were cited as indications of a present tendency in that direction. Aflirniative speakers relied upon the interpretation of the word dominion to mean leadership, and, in the opinion of the judges, lost points by twoedged arguments. At the conclusion of the evening a presentation of entree dishes was made by Mr. Moore, on behalf of the society, to the president, Mr. Eric Franklin, and Mies Marjorie Taylor, on the eve of their marriage. Mr. Moore referred to the services of the president to the society. A handsome bouquet was presented to Miss Taylor by the ladies.
