BY-LAW OFFENDERS.

FAILURE TO CARRY LIGHTS. NUMEROUS FINES IMPOSED, By-law offenders made a lengthy list at the weekly round-up before Mr. F. K. Hunt, S.M., at the Magistrate's Court to-day. Hoffman, G. G. Hislop, J. C. Hardley, V. Hogg, G. W. Jacfcson, J. Jenkins, H. F. Kent, J. R. Lough, H. Lane, P. McCarthy, R. A, F. Pawson, T. P. Pountney, H. Patton, E. E, Quoi, S. Robinson, R. C. Starkey, C. H. Saw. yers, J. M. Smeeton, Minnie Sprang, J. Wilde, R. Woodside, W. L. Watsoiij each fined 10/ and costs. No lights: A. Broadhead, £1; 15, Adams, 10/; K. B. Coleman. £1; B. Denly, 10/; B. M. Irvine, £1; Elsie Johnson. £1; J. Montgomery, £1; G. H. Monks, 10/; D. G. Macky, £J; O. Mont, gomery, £1; T. MiUer, £1; F. Restill, 10/. For failure to notify change of ownership, Merson Bros, were fined £1. Other offences were—H. R. Harness, passing stationary tramcar, £1; M. Pavlovieh, taking hands off motor cycle handles, 10/; J. M. Patte and A. Broadhead, no driver's license, 10/; T. F. Clark, R. A. Denney and C. H. Tileman, car parked in Queen Street, 10/; E. A. Ashley, failing to give way to a vehicle on the right, £2. Spedlng: C. O. Litherland, £3; W. E. Marsden, £1; B. J. Taylor, £1. Traffic Regulations. A number of cases came before ilio Magistrate's Court to-day in which defendants were charged with breaches of the traffic regulations. Mr. A. J. Strat* ford, J.P., and Mr. R. T. Michaels, J.P., were on the Bench. Mr. G. R. Hogan, chief traffic inspector, prosecuted in the following cases on behalf of the Auckland City Council: J. A. Rutledge, fof turning to the right, was fined 20/;' K. Cochrane, for leaving a car unattended, 10/; A. G. London, for leaving a car in a zone atea, 10/; C. E. Howden, for turning to the right, 20/ and costs;' T. Bachourd and N. B. Riech, for passing a stationary tram car, each 40/; F. Muller, failing to move his vehicle when instructed, 10/; and J. W, Driver, overhanging load, 10/. Dangerous Driving. The following penalties were impose?! for dangerous driving: C. F. 10/; A. Forsyth, R. A. Pratt, V. L. Alley, 20/; R. Trask, 30/; and A. C. Wright, 40/. Five Charges. L. Briggs pleaded guilty to five breaches, four for running an unlicensed lorry, and one of failing to show unladeq weight. Mr. Mackay said license fees fof heavy traffic vehicles ran up as high at> £75. This man's lorry had been work* ing on the road at Birkenhead. The Bench inflicted penalties of 20/] in two cases and 5/ in the other three. Costa were allowed. Defended Case. Mrs. Mary Jackson Goldie (Mr. Holm* den) pleaded not guilty to having overtaken a vehicle on Grafton Bridge. Mr. Holmden stated it was no offence to pass a stationary car on the bridge. Evidence was given by defendant andj two lady passengers that the only car they passed was a blue taxi that had pulled up on the bridge. Mr. Holmden said there was evidently a mistake somewhere, as the ladies were not on Grafton Bridge at the time stated by the inspector. Defendant was ordered to pay costs. Taxi Overcharge. F. G. Allen pleaded not guilty to over* charging a taxi fare, and also to failing to operate a taximeter. After* hearing; evidence a fine of 5/ was imposed in each case.
