3IINE MANAGERS' REPORTS. Taihoa.—The , - Intermediate level is now In 71ft from the top of the rise. The reef is about 12 inches in thickness, with no change iv quality. Knrangahake.—The supervisor visited the mine ou the 12th. and he reports as follows:—The low level is now in 42ft, and the winze is down 23ft. Tbe winze is producing some highly payable ore. In the last 6 feet of sinking we have secured abour 121bs of stone, which might be termed tairpicked stove, and by all appearance the reef is improving as we go down. We have now about 25 tons of quartz stacked, which 1 consider is worth 2 to 3 ozs to the ton by ordinary battery process. 1 would advise sinking the winze another 20 or 25 feet, and if tiie ore continues to carry such high values, it will be tbe duty of the directors to provide some means of crushing. Notwithstanding all that has been said to the contrary, I am quite satisfied you have a most valuable property, and one that, with proper management, should soon be amongst the list of dividend-paying mines. Rising Sun. —The drive north in the main level has been extended a distance of 21ft for the week. In the winze the drive south on the hanging-wall reef has been extended j a. distance of 4ft. Good prospects are being obtained, and good ore is still coming to hand from this face. Scandinavian. —In the drive north, Lowrit s reef has a kindly appearance, with good mineral indications. The reef has now been opened up 55ft. Temple Bar.—During the week a horse of mullock came in, dividing the reef in two parts. Both veins are carrying good mineral. The reef is now entering a better class of country. Prospecting is being continued. Several reefs have been located, one in particular called the "Falls' Reef," which the manager intends to do a bit of wort on. Waiotahi.—The crosscut east from the drive on the branch leader at No. 6 level is now close to the boundary and being past the point where the Victoria No. 2 reef should be met with, 1 have come to the conclusion tiiat one of the small reefs already cut through is the reef in question. I have stopped the crosscut and started to open out on the larger reef met with some little time back. The drive ou the puggy formation in the footwall of the dropper is in a distance of 34ft, and there is a little more quartz now showing in the face. The No. 2 rise on the footwall dropper is Bft above the back of the level, the reef here being about 3ft in width. The stopes on the dropper, although getting close up to the floor of No. 5 level, continue to yield good payable crushing dirt, colours of gold being frequently seen. In the last stope on the main reef above this level 171b of good picked stone have been selected. On the Cure reef the seventh stope has been carried 58ft west of the rise, and good dabs and colours of gold have been seen in the quartz broken. No. 5 level: The leading stope on the dropper has been carried east of the rise for a distance of 62ft, and is producing payable quartz. Stoping on the main reef under the No. 4 rise has also been in progress, but no gold has been seen here during the week. No. 4 level: The stopes on the main reef west of No. 1 winze are in progress, and are yielding a good supply of payable crushing dirt. No. 3 level: The stoping of the block under the floor of this level ou the Imperial City reef, is in hand, and during the week 31b of picked stone have beeu selected. Kirikiri. —The winze of the north face is in a kind of quartz formation, being mixed up with silica, stringers, mineral seams, and flinties, which the manager thinks will turn out to be a large reef formation. The rise is passing through a like formation. The reef when compacted carries splendid minerals, and also does the silica and stringers. In the north drive the size of the reef is Gin thick. No gold was seen when breaking down. The quartz is heavily mineralised with splendid minerals, and looks equally as good as when the gold was obtained above in the upper levels. The whole of the country is mixed up with silica, stringers, mineral seams and flints. The horse shoe reef looks very well and at any moment the manager expects to get gold as it shows every indication of it.
Tairna Triumph.—The contractors have extended No. 3 level a further distance of loft for the week, making a total distance of 185 ft ■ from starting- point There still remains a further distance of 85£t to intersect No.. 2 lode. If the present country
continues, another month should see the lode at hand. There have been several small leaders crossing the face, which sl<ow little gold when washed off in the dish. Nest week should see the contractors's aistance of 200 ft of driving completed. Champion.—Battery level: The new site selected will effect a saving of about 300 ft of driving at a sacrifice of IS or 20ft of backs. This will mean starting the tunnel in firmer country, and arriving under the dyke at least two months sooner. For the present six men will be employed driving the tunnel, with an extra hand for squaring timber, etc. Excavating on the battery site is advancing satisfactorily. Some of the lighter portions of the plant have already been lauded on the site. The rockbreakers and automatic feeders ordered from Messrs. Price Bros., of Thames, are finished and loaded up ready for removal. The prolonged period of dry weather has beeu very much in favour of getting the road from Puriri to the mine in good order, and while this weather lasts the d'thculiies in removing the heavy parts of machinery will be comparatively small.
