the willoughby an~d ward Reason. It is so long since Auckland playgoers were treated to an up-to-date comedy fare, tliat it is safe to predict success for the forthcoming season under th.3 Wilioughby cad Ward management. "Mr. Eopkinson" is said to be full of legitimate humour, which seems to fall naturally into the mouths of the characters without the necessity of being "dragged in" to make the "unskilful laugh. , A southern critic says "There is a good story told, and told well. Mr. R. C. Carton, the author, has done his best, and that, as we know, is something very good indeed. Clever dialogue, smart satire, rich humour, and some really fine character drawing with an effervescing yet consistent and most Interesting plot, made one of the brightest evenings the Criterion Theatre has witnessed for a very long time. Mr. Hugh Ward took the part of ilr. Hopkinson, or TBCoppy,' and has never appeared to greater advantage; while IVir. George Willoughby, as the rotund Earl of Addleton, ever fearful of an attack of sea-sickness, kept the house in convulsions. As a lady of quality (the Duchess of Braeeborough) Miss Grace Palotta looked and played the part to perfection—her dresses and appearance being characteristic of this bewitching actress."
