JSx Le Cren, of the Lahour Department, left- for Wellington yesterday afternoon. . Colonel Tnson and Major Robinson left for the South'by the Takapuna yesterday. Captain R. Crawford, formerly in «*mjuand of the wrecked Union Company's gteamer Kawatiri, is now in command of jhe collier Pukaki. •Messrs Baildon and Clarke, delegates from the Auckland Biiilders' Association left by the Monra to-day to attend the Conference which is to be held in Jfapier. •Mr E- Gerard, Official Assignee in bankruptcy, left this morning on a business visit to "Waihi, via Thames. He will Drobably return on Wednesday. ■A private telegram received in Wellington records the death at Wakamajhui' (Marlborough) on Tuesday, of Captain C. L. Diamantii who first landed in New Zealand at the Bay of Islands, in the year 1832. Subsequently he lived in Australia for a time, and later was engaged in the timber trade on the New Zealand coast. He was 90 years of oge, and leaves two sons and five daughters "besides many descendants. A very' pleasing event took place at the warehouse of Messrs Bendell, Limited on Friday evening, when, on behalf of'the-firm, Mr Frank Rendell, in the course of a few well chosen remarks presented a handsome overmantel, a set of bronze images," and a hall-stand to Miss C. Bist on the occasion of her leaving the firm, and of her approaching marriage. The ladies of the staff also presented a pretty dinner service as a_ token of their regard. The workroom etaff presented Miss Hist with an elec-tro-plated cake dish.
