POLICE COURT.

(Before Mr. R. W. Dyer, S.M.)

Inebriate.—Charles Graham, a second offending breaker of prohibition, was fined £1, in default seven days, for the lapse, and £3, in default one month, for breaking the order, sentences to be accumulative. William Hamilton another breaker of the order, was fined £2, in default 14 days for drunkenness, and £5, with the alternative of two months, for breaking the order, sentences to be eonrairront. Junes Bowden, £1 in default seven days, for drunkenness, and £5 or three months for breaking prohibition, sentences to be concurrentRobert Gates, 5/- for the lapse, and £l, in default seven days, for resisting the arresting constable. Three first offenders were dealt with, one forfeiting bail. A Serious Charge,—A youth named Joseph Brown, charged with criminally assaulting a little girl under ten years of age, was remanded a week for medical examination.

Alleged Ealse Pretences.—Alexander Stewart, a lad between 16 and 17 years <jf age, accused of obtaining two Separate sums of money, amounting in all to £3 12/-, upon false pretences, was, on the application of Chief-detective Marsack, remanded until Wednesday next, bail being allowed in two sureties of £50 each.

On Licensed Premises.—James Johnston, convicted of being found on licensed premises within the period during which a prohibition order was in force against him, was on the first of two charges fined £2 and costs, in default one month, and on the second convicted and ordered to come up for sentence when called upon.

By-Law Breaches.—Henry Volans, for allowing a horse to wander in HoT»onstreet, was fined 10/ and costs; Fred. Follas, for leaving a vehicle unattended 10/ and costs; John Cook, riding a horse on the footpath, 10/ and costs.

Getting a Seat.—Henry Blampied William Lambert, William Massey, and Herbert Green were each fined 10/ and costs 7/ for boarding tramcars while in motion.

School Attendance Act.—The foUowing fines were inflicted, Mr. Small, truant officer, prosecuting for breaches of the School Attendance Act:—George Lomas 6/ and costs; Walter Medus,- 6/ and costs; Mrs. Pirritt, 4/ and costs; James Robertson, 4/ without costs- and Thomas King £1 and costs.
