SUPPOSED SUICIDE.
We reported in our second edition yesterday what appeared to be case of suicide- in Merlin Boarding-house, in Hpbson - street, a . remittance man, named John Coekburn Owen Baasett, of about 40 years of age, being, discovered dead in his bed between eight and nine o'clock. Standing on a table beside him was a glass containing liquid, the contents of which are supposed to be a mixture containing cyanide of potassium. A bottle containing a quantity of the same mixture was also in the room, while on the floor was a
wrapper with the name of the poison upon it. Constable Blake was called in, and he took possession of the contents of the glass and bottle, the body.being removed to the morgue. An inquest will follow.
It is stated that Bassett was last seen alive between two and three o'clock yesterday afternoon, when he was seen going into his bedroom.
