CARRENO. The box plan and sale of tickets will be opened to-morrow morning at nine o'clock at Wildman and Arey's for the Carreno concerts. Herr Benno Scherek, the director of the tour, announces in this issue that special arrangements will be made for the comfort of the public in the matter of easy entrance and exit at the Choral Hall, obviatiug the crushing, which has previously been a matter of comment. PONSOXBY SHAKESPEARE AND KHETORIC CLUB. The Leys Institnte readers presented their siith programme of the season last night, when they treated an appreciative audience to a number of detached Shakespearean scenes of varied character, recitations, and Gilbert's inimitable "Rosencrantz and Guildenstern." The opening scene of "Klug Lear," in which Mr Percy Harris took the title role, assisted by the Misses Sloane, Miss Gillett, and Messrs Hart, Wells, Northcroft, Wells, and. Adams, was given effectively. This was followed by Kobaudl's flne romauza, "Alia Stella Confldente," excellently sung by Miss Jessie Bartlett, accompanied by Miss Bertha Jackson, and with violin obligato by Mr H. 1-lemus. Mr E. T. Hart was a wonderful , y good Welshman as Fluellen In two "Henry the Fifth" scenes, and was very ably seeouded by Mr G. Bullen as PVstol. In lieu of an absentee Mr Maswell Walker devilered Bracken's "Not Understood" most effectively. Miss Russell and i Mr. Hcimis were fairly successful in two;

'"Macbeth" excerpts. Gilbert's "tragic episode," "Rosenerantz and Guildenstern" severely taxed the gravity •of readers and audience. Certainly, Mr Walker was as mad a Hamlet as could reasonably be desired, whilst Miss Bertha Jackson's Ophelia, was delightfully animated and fickle. Mr Northcroft (Claudius 1 , contributed very materially to the success of the piece, and was well supported by Miss Russell as Queen Gertrude. ,
