MeWatters, and Last night at the meeting of the Debat--1b" Society, the evening, which, was controlled by the ladies,--was--devoted to the composition of a magazine. Among the papers submitted were "A Shot in the jjawn," "A Cycle Trip From JSelson to Ttikaka," "Christmas at' liotorua," and ••Modern Slang." ilra. Adams occupied tlie chair, and was assisted with the reading of the papers by Miss G. Tippler. Some of the papers showed that the contributors possessed a good deal of ability, more especially in their descriptions of trips. At the Magistrate's Court this morning John Barrett appeared charged with a breach of his prohibition order. The case was adjourned for a month, to see how he behaved in tlie meantime.

Albert Sailings, Charles Mclntosh, Richard White, J. H. Ayres, and M. Fnrey appeared on a charge of being on licensed premises on Sunday. All the defendants appeared but Mdntosh, who sent a plea of guilty. The others claimed business as their creese, and said they had no drink. Melntosh ■was fined 5/ and costs 7/, sm4 tie others were discharged. « --
