AUCKLAND PARLIAMENTARY ASSEMBLY.
The fourth meeting of the Parliamentary Session of the above took place on Wednesday evening in the Social Hall, V.M.C.A., Auckland. The Speaker, Mr W. J. Speight, took the chair at 7.30.
The amendment to the Government Land Bill, moved at the previous sitting by the Leader of the Opposition (Mr G. J. Garland) was the "order of the day/ , which, if carried, would of necessity have displaced the Government.
F. M. Hay (Premier), ia an able speech, replied to the chief objections formulated by the Opposition, and Mr C. H. Sexton (Minister for Lands), concluding the debate with an earnest and ■eloquent vindication of his bill. The Speaker then put the question, and, a division being challenged, tellers were appointed, the numbers being: For the bill, 34; against, 22. The result was received ■with, loud cheers by the Government benches. The second reading was then carried on the voices.
Leave was given to the Minister for Defence (Mr H. P. Taylor) to introduce a bill at the next sitting on "Compulsory Military Training," and the House adjourned at 10.15.
