BOMB OUTRAGE.

TO BLOW UP A POLICE I STATION.

BATHURST (N.S.W.), June 25.

A dastardly attempt was made during the early hours of Saturday .naming to blow up the police stataoji ai< Wattle Flat.

Constable Cullen, who had been transferred to Bathurst, was entertained by the local residents at the Royal Hotel on the occasion of his departure, and after the function he returned to the police station, where he had to sleep for the night, prior to leaving for Bathurst the next day. As his furniture had already been removed, he was obliged to sleep on a couch in the dining-room. A few hours later, however, he was awakened by a loud explosion and a crashing of glass and the shaking of the building. He immediately rushed outside, but could not see anyone. A large number of residents were attracted to the vicinity, and an examination showed that a bomb had been exploded on the verandah.

The explosive, which was evidentlythrown from the street, consisted of a cardboard box charged with dynamite and packed with rags. As a r?suit ot the explosion a hole was blown .n the floor of the verandah and the parlour window was completely destroyed.

The perpetrator was evidently aware that it was Constable Cullen's last night in the village, and probably have a grievance against him, decided to pay it off in this fashion. Apparently he also thought that Cullen was sleeping in the front bedroom, and aimed the bomb in that direction.

Sub-Inspector Parkinson left Bathurst this afternoon to investigate the matter, and a number of police from the surrounding district are engaged in the Search for the perpetrator.
