A boy named Mudford met with an accident at the Auckland Rope Works. Stanley-street, this morning, having two of the fingers of his left hand so badly pinched that, on his removal to the hospital, it was found necessary to amputate them completely from the first joint.
Dr. J. M. Bell, Government geologist, accompanied by his assistant, Mr. J. M. Clarke, arrived by the Pateena from the South yesterday, putting up at the Grand Hotel. Dr. Bell proceeds this evening to Whangaroa,
The s.s. Zealandia, sailing for Sydney this evening, will carry a valuable shipment of bullion totalling 12 bars, valued at £47,074. The shippers are the Bank of New Zealand.
The Eastern Extension Co. has notified that both the Port Darwin Banjoewangie cables and the Broome-Banjoe-wangie cable, is interrupted. During the interruption, traffic for India and the East will be diverted '"via Cocos and Aden/ without alteration of charges.
