« TIMARU POULTRY SHOW. ! (By Association.) TIMARU, this day. The entries in the South Canterbury. Poultry Society's Show total 532. Silver Wyandottes are the strongest feature of the show. Mr. F. C. Hack, (Christchurch) and Mr. F. L. McGregor (Thnaru) are the chief in this class." In White Wyandottes Mr. J. H. Blair took all the prizes, having no opposition. In Black Minorcas Mr. L. R Burns (Timaru) is the principal prize-winner, .with Mr.W. H. Amos (Ash-burton);-runner up. In White Leghorns Mr. J. Thomson (Timaru) is the chief prize-taker. The points prizes were wont by the 'following: Brojra Leghorns, Mr. J. Lilli'co (Waimate); Leghorns,' Mr. J. Thomson; Golden Wynadottes, Mr. F. C. Hack; Black Langshans, MrJ F. Palmer; Minorcas, Mr. S. R Burns;Black Orpingtons, Mr.W.Brown. There is a very good show of pigeons, Mr. J.Thomson annexing most of the prizes. The. Grahame Gup was won by Mr. S. R Burns. CHRYSANTHEMUM SOCIETY'S ' DIFFICULTY. (By Telegraph.—Press Association.) DUNEDIN, this day. The Chrysantihemium Society, at p special meeting last night, decided- to go into liquidation and donate the funds in hand to the trustees of the Art Gallery. This morning a legal opinion wasgiven that last night's resolution is invalid, because of the society being an incorporate body. A majority could not bind a minority. The secretary of the society has been served with a copy of this opinion, and advised that if the liquidation is proceeded with a restraining injunction will be taken out.
SALARIES OF TEACHERS. INVERCARGILL; this day. There was a crowded attendance at the annual conference of the Southland Education Institute. The prevailing deepseated discontent with the present system of salaries made itself manifest, as did also the determination of teachers of all ranks to press for reform. The main features of the new scheme on the lines set forth by the Auckland Promotion Committee were agreed upon. A special committee was set up to complete the scale, and take farther steps in forwarding the purpose in hand. A LAND BALLOT. NELSON, this day.'
