THAT DRAINAGE QUESTION.
TTo the Editor-* • Sir,—The proposed erection of saltrater baths filled the minds of many >eople wrfch anticipatory pleasure, that it last the women and children of Auckand were to enjoy a wholesome and in.igorating dip in the moderately- clean rvater of our lovely harbour, in decency md comfort. But if the whole of the sewage of this large city is to be emptied into a laad-locked bay even if its .arious odours are to be somewhat diluted, and its many infectious -diseases threatened with carbolic the quality of the salt water for bathing purposes must be very seriously impaired. In fact, the idea of plunging into such a mixture is not at all attractive. "Why caimot one grand, comprehensive scheme, that of carrying all sewage to the West Coast, and emptying itself into the Pacilc Ocean on that side of the Mand be adopted? Of course, it would be very expensive, but our children would benefit by it, and would have to help to pay for it.—l am, eta, L. "PEjOST RAT-TEAT.
