FKCIT AKD PRODUCE MARKETS. Business on the local fruit and produce markets has been fairly brisk daring the past week. In potatoes there was practi- i c*ily no business done outside of imports from Tasmania, which were In enpply be- I yond requirements. Onions firmed some- I what in Talue, prime sorts bein; scarce. | I whilst inferior vrere plentiful. Kmnaras ! showed an improvement in demand and value. Pumpkins were practically unsalable. Chaff was much better in valne and prices show an upward tendency. Grain i Severally was firmer at slightly adTanced . values. Supplies of fruit were heavy i throughout. Lemons were rery plentiful '«nd declined in price on late rates, sales beinp difficult to eifeet. Apples realised about last week's valnes. Passlon-frnit from Sydney was in heavy supply, but met with a good demand. A small consignment of Sydney mandarins gold well. A moderate shipment of bananas .arrived from Fiji by the Talune on Monday, but, although in splendid order, met with a poor demand, owing to the cold wca.Uier prevailing. The butter market was fully enpphed, but the demand was exceptionally dull. There was fair competition for small .lots of farmers' make in prints and rolls, but there was no demand for farmers" buiK varieties, whilst milled, for export, showed a heavy decline in price. Fresh eggs were STarce at high rates, and cheese, bacon, an 1 hams showed no change. Poultry was penned iv larje numbers, but the majority of the birds seat in were ja very Poor condition. No doubt the present high rate I for fe-d is compelling holders to sell. Xoiras pigs were in fair supply, but values were lower than last week.
