The quarterly meeting of .the North Auckland Hospital Board was heia at W^ were also present representatives from Whangarei. Otamatea, Hobson, h "fsoroa,. Bay It Islands, and Hokianga counties officer to the Rawene Hospital, and Dr. Yeutes was appointed In succession- to Mm. Xurse Johnston had been selected as matron of Waikamo Hospital. A vote of £000 for fiiruishiug and sanitary work in con nection with Mangonui Hospital had been applied for. The secretary of the r Vf orn Wairoa Board of Trustees had submitted a statement of estimated expenditure and receipts for tlie year eutliug March 31, 1008. which was given at £1813 and £1278 respectively, leaving .-» deficiency of ±-a*>i The trustees had amended this c- m ' lawhich now stood at £365. The Hohspn County Council had made a claim on tlie Board for £200, which was £80 in excess of their disbursements, and their claim made them face the fact that the county still owed the Board £385 11/11. Their failure to pay this sum deprived the Board of nn equal amount in subsidy. The Hospital Sunday demonstrations in Wnangarei and HiknrangJ realised £50 10/, wluch, with a subsidy of 24/ in the £, would make a. total of £121. The report was unanimously adopted. , The chairman held that the Northern Wairoa claim was excessive, compared with other hospitals of a similar size, and after disenssioa ie was resolved -.—"That tlie claim of the Northern "Wairoa trustees is still unsatisfactory, nnd that they be- asked to reconsider -it', falling which, the Board will be compelled to Institute another inquiry into the management of the Northern Wairoa Hospital." With, regara to the claim for loss ens-, tainea by the removal of tue Mangonui Hospital site, the arbitrators appointed awarded John Draper, claimant, £324 0/7, with the added expense of extra cartlns, £77 7/3; Tne costs ofxarbltration, totalling £44 5/6, ar* to be shared equally by the Board and Mr Draper. The Mayor's notice of motion to levy a rate of onesixth of a penny in tlie pound was given effect to. Accounts amounting to £908 10/11 were passed for payment.
The county clerk, Hokianga, wrote notifying the Board, that the capital value of Hokianga County, subject to rating, was £23,197. He also asked tor the balance due in administration (£297 8/8) to be passed by the Board.
