BAND CONTEST ENTBIKS. (By Telegraph.—Own Correspondent,) WAlldl, this day. Complete preparations have been made lor the Waihi band contest, which commences ou Th.msday evening at the Drill Han. Given hue weather, the contest promises to -be a great success. A large number of visitors are expected to accompany contesting •bands from the Thames and. Auckland, special excursions having been arranged. Tne test selection will be taken first, on Thursday evening, and the military marcning contest takes place in the Kecreation Reserve at 1.30 p.m. on Friday afternoon. On Friday evening a social will be - held In the Academy of Music in honour of the visiting bandsmen. The musical judge is Mr Chas. Trussed, conductor of the Waihi Band. Tne military judges are Sergeant-Major .McDonald, Drum-Major Gardner aud Lieut. Ready. Mr E. Gibson is secretary of tlie committee, IVIr J. Newdick is supervisor, and Mr Ji Rabbidge timekeeper. The following are the complete entries received:—Test selectDon and marching: First lteglmental Band A.M.R., Hauraki Battalion No. 2, Haurakl Brass, Karangahake Brass, Hamilton Municipal, and Rotorua Town. A driver named E. Huon, employed by the Waihi Borough Council, met with a painful accident whilst In the act of Jumping off a dray. He landed In a rut and severely injured his side. He is now under medical treatment.

At a meellng ol the House Committee ot the Waihi Hospital Roard last evening the porter's resignation was accepted, and applications were ordered to be advertised. It was decided that oue of the small wards should be utilised for X rays in the meantime to save the immediate expense of erecting a building. It was decided that Mr Morgan (director cf the Waihi School of Mines) be requested to draw up plans and specifications lor a complete X raya outflt, and that he confer witfe-Dr. Ciaridge (medical superintendent) and Dr. Deck on tne subject, the plans, etc., to De ready for a special meeting on the 20th Inst. Dr. Pomaie, native health officer, after a brief visit to Waihi, left yesterday for Russell to investigate the sanitary conditions of the native settlement there.

Mr Petrle, Chief Inspector of "Public Schools, accompanied by Mr H. W. Stewart, General inspector, is at present in Waihi conducting the usual exams, at the District High School and Convent School Dr. Frengley. District Health Officer, has just paid a visit to Waihi.
