NEW ZEALAND EXHIBITION.

CHEISTCHURCH, thi3 day.

The Exhibition, still keeps up large attendances. There was a great crowd in the avenues and grounds last night, and upwards of fourteen thousand passed through the turnstiles yesterday, makinff 92,000 visitors since the opening. "The Light of the World" has been hung in a .good position in the art gallery. Mr Carruthers. Premier of New South Wales, has cabled to Sir Joseph Ward congratulations . upon the successful opening of the Exhibition. The Premier has also received a letter from Mr Robinson, Executive Commissioner for Victoria, writing on behalf of the Commissioners of the Exhibition, expressing pleasure at the success of the opening proceedings, and surprise at the magnitude of the undertaking, and the complete manner in which all the arrangements have been made to ensure the best effects. The better heartily congra-. tulates the Premier. The charges for chairs used within the buildings have been reduced from threepence to a penny, but the. former, charge continues for chairs in the grounds, and is causing , dissatisfaction.

Mr Race, a Canadian Commissioner, speaking at the mayoral banquet last night, paid a. graceful tribute to New Zealanders and their loyalty to their own country and to the Empire. The deputy mayor read a' letter from Sir John' Hall expressing regret at being unable to , personally tender to the visitors a cordial welcome to Christchurch. The toast of "The Mayor" was proposed by the Governor, who expressed thanks to Sir John for the entertainment and its opportunities.

There was an anmiated scene on the second day of the show to-day, the chief features being the judging of cattle, sheep, draught horses, implements and seeds. There was fine weather and a large attendance. There is a record display of stock in numbers and quality.
