V.R.C. SPRING MEETING.

The V.R.C. opened tlieir spring meeting at Flemington to-Uay. Though the weather might have; been finer, the course, wuicU was so badly damaged by the recent floods, appeared in perfect order, the lawns ami tracks having been restored by an army or men who did wonders iv the time at Uieir disposal The weather was capricious. After heavy rain during the night southwesterly winds brought up fierce squalls at intervals during the morning, but bright sunshine alternated, and large crowds were tempted to the course, and when the Urs; race started the grand stands were all rnll. Sheen (secretary), of ■W.iihi Jockey Club, «tteiided at the iuvlts- ,- tlon of the Hack Club to explain the Jockey Chili's intention re the grand stand and saddling paddock, and the proposed method oC raising money. Carter I asked if the Jockey Club's representatives would be satisfied if the meeting approved of the proposal, and agreed by resolution lo assist. The reply being in the affirnia- | tive. it was resolved that the meeting tipi proved of the Jockey Club's proposal, and promised to support the scheme in every possible v>"iiy. The secretary reported the result of his inquiries, re special train arrangements for December Ist. It was agreed to endeavour to arrange for a special train to leave Waihi at 32 o'clock, leavng Pearoa on return at 7 o'clock. Trains also to leave Paeroa for Thames and To Arohn at the same hour. The liceuse fee lor bookmakers was left over for a future ineeti ing, it being considered that tho fee should be fixed i ccoi-diug to the number present.
