A LARGE BUTTER SHIPMENT.
A striking illustration of the rapid increase in the output of butter for the present season, as compared with previous years, is afforded by the fact that the New Zealand Dairy Association's Shipment to-day occupied a complete train of twelve large trucks in transit from Auckland to Onehunga to join the coastal steamer for transhipment to the lonic at Wellington for England. Even this train took only a portion of the shipment, a substantial balance following by a subsequent train. This company has previously sent shipments that occupied an entire train, but never quite so early in the season.
Asked concerning- a report of falling prices. Mr Wesley Spragg this morning paid nothing had occurred to cause alarm. "Prices, -, he said, "'will fluctuate, you know. But our people in England have advised us that they have already refused to sell at the prices offered because they expected better. I don't for a moment think the bottom is out of the butter trade." A large increase is shown in the butter shipments from Auckland for the fortnight ended to-day. The quantity in cold store for shipment for the fortnight was 10,524 boxes, or 263 tons. Of this lot the s.s. lonic is taking 10,----102 boxes for London, the s.s. Waimate 197 boxes for London, and 135 boxes are to go by the Federal line to the West of England. For the corresponding period of last year the shipment was 6254 boxes. For the present season to date the export has been 25,924 boxes, ;i3 compared with 13,795 boxes to the same date of last season, an increase of 12,----129 boxes or 303 tons. The grader reports that a good quality is still being maintained by the majority of the factories.
