Tapi'.hi until recently wns known as Ituapekapeka, or the Waiotu Valley, and in order to avoid confusion assumed this ni»w name. Tapuhi is not mure than six miles north of the Ilukoreiiui railway statloD. A really jcood country road connects this small district with Hukerenui. A few people in the district, tUinkiug that the reading of good books would provide recreaiion and instruction for them, lioerallv subscribed until a total of £28 was collected, and on Jan. 25 the library her-ame Incorporated under the Public Libraries' Powers Act. On February 4. a public meotin? was lielil CMr T.*Hedley presiding), at which Mr Houston, M.H.It., and Mr T. Medley wer» appointed patron and president and Messrs Irving and Massey were appointed honorary life members. The library havinp been declared open, dancing was then indulged in.
