A TRAMWAY APPOINTMENT.

Considerable dissatisfaction exists among the tramway employees with regard to the recent appointment of a ticket inspector as Chief Traffic iDspeetor, and there are rumours that a. tramway strike is possible. Last -week a City Councillor and a motorman waited on the town clerk, and the latter placed tke men's case before the town clerk. He declared that ho neither could nor would work under the inspector. The town clork says that the mon"s representative went id Far as to make efca-temeivts which could only be interpreted as a threat to strike. The town' , clerk- replied that the appointment in question was only temporary; and suggested to t;he deputation that the grievr ances should be put in writing.- The men accordingly sent a petition to the Council asking for the dismissal of the unpopular officer, and the petition was referred .to the Tramways Goimnittce, with the result that an inquiry will be held into the matter to-inorroV.
