THE STATUE OF SIR JOHN CAMPBELL.
Letters received by the San Francisco mail from Mr. Henri" Pegram. A.B-A-, state that the "working model" of the statue of Sir John Campbell is nearly completed., and the large clay model has novr been taken in hand: and will be carried to completion as rapidly as may be, consistently with a successful result. The sculptor expresses satisfaction with the photographs of Sir John forwarded by the committee, but asks for,one in absolute profile. This, he says, will ■ ena-blf him to enhance ihe merit of what he hopes to make an ornament to the main entrance to Cornwall Park, where the statue is to be erected.
The first progress payment of £380, one-third the total cost of the statue, has just been made.
