■AECKLANI) CLUB'S GALA. The Auckland Amateur Swimming Clnb held a very successful gala in the Albertstreet baths last night, there being an excellent attendance, considering the apathy that has been, manifest in swimming matters so far this season. The heats in the various races were even, and ; some of the finishes being very close, con- ; siderable interest centred in the results. \ During the evening R Cav_l, the champion ! swimmer, gave exhibitions of diving and ' trick and fancy swimming, which appealed I greatly to the audience/ who applauded j this famous swimmer vociferously. The general arrangements were curried oat ia a creditable manner. A word of praise is dae to the handicappcr (Mr A. Smith), tne starter (Mr &. E.
