LEGISLATION AND ROADMAKING.
(To the Editor.) Sir, —The present strikes in Russia and Germany are splendid opportunities for Mr Seddon to advertise the progress of New Zealand, and especially its government, by sending a copy of our Arbitration Act to the Czar and Kaiser with instructions that any deviation from it would spoil its working , . Xo doubt both would be exceedingly glad of such a simple -way to settle present and prospective troubles. To show that democracy can be autocratic as well a copy of the Shop and Offices Act would surely induce them to sec the superiority Oi New Zealand government to their own. Obviously it would not be advisable to say that the* latter is afraid to carry it into effect. 1 would suggest that in return both Emperors be asked how to make roads, ac Xc.v Zealand pays all possible attention to the X.Y.Z. of legislation, but apparently does not understand the ABC of road-making. ■ I am, etc., FAll NORTH.
