"With reference to the rescue of Mis 3 Taylor in the harbour on Sunday night we understand that our report of the occurrence was substantially correct. In last night's issue we published a statement from a correspondent setting out that a young man named Edgar Spiers jumped overboard and succeeded in bringing Miss Taylor alongside the ferry boat. A passenger on the steamer who signs himself F.J.W. writes: "Your correspondent is totally incorrect, and altogether at sea, wherever he got his information from. Captain Matt. Scott it was who went head foremost (as he has often done before) off the paddle I box to the lady's relief and rescue. Mr. «5l er Jfc cert \ lnly was " ™ the "water, biit thn Sn« c y S , Ul , 3ping -accidentally off lady P "o°>!\ While tr * in S to *4 the ladj. Nobody jumped overboard but the skipper, so that your first notice of the affair was absolutely correct" Can tain Scott verifies the above statement.
