PTOMAINE POISONING.
(By Telegraph.—Press Association.) DUNEDIN, Tuesday. Tbe adjourned inquest in regard to the deaths of Thomas Trudgeon and Walter Ridded, who died in the hospital from supposed ptomaine poisoning, was reBinui'd to-day. Mr G. M. Thomson and Dr. Block, who analysed tins of tongues from the seme lot "as those which had been partaken of by the young men, gave evidence that they had failedto find any trace of poisonous ptomaine. Both were confident that if there had been any th.-ry would have detected them by the process used. Dr. Black also tried for other poisons, but failed to find a trace. He had no hesitation in partaking of some of the tongues, which he did without the slightest ill-effects. In the case of Trudgeon the jury returned a verdict that death was due to ptomaine poisoning, but there was no evidence to show where the poison came from. In the case of Riddel!, the evidence in the previous case having been read over, the Gear Meat Company's expert vras offered as a witness, but the coroner said there was no need to take Ms evidence. The jury returned a verdict that the cause of death was poisoning, but what the nature of the poison and how it originated there was not sufficient evidence to show.
