POSITION OP EDUCATIOX BOARDS. (By Telegraph.—Press Association.) TIMARU, this day. , At a meeting of the South Canterbury Board of Education to-day, a reSolution was unanimously passed protesting against the action of the Department in limiting the spending powers of Boards, and forcing them, into an attitude.-of mendicancy in some' cases, and' in others in allowing a' "miserable concession of 7 per cent."A remonstrance was also offered i against the Department regarding j Boards with distrust, and having their j proper functions withdrawn. It was agreed to forward a copy of this resolution to the Department, together with the protest passed by the Souths land Board. MAORI SCHOLARSHIPS. WELLINGTON, this dajj.J The three scholarships esta.blisnxs£k at Te Aute Native College by Mr DoupP las McLean of Napier, in memory of his father, the late Sir Donald McLean, have been won this year as follows: — Senior Scholarship, Tahi Iwikati, of Te Aute College: Junior Scholarship, Honi Tamati and" Tai Heketa, both of Poverty Bay.
