Messrs. Aitken Carrick and J. L. R. Bloomfield intend to leave for the Old Country very shortly on a visit. Mr Buckingham, who is an English sportsman in the habit of paying an annual angling visit to this colony, left for Okoroire yesterday. Sir Edward Wittenoom, K.C.M.G-, left Auckland for Rotorua yesterday. Sir Edward was formerly Agent-General for West Australia. Colonel and Mrs Macßobin join the mail steamer Sierra at Sydney for San Franqisco. Mr T. Buddie and Miss Buddie leare for England next month by the steamer lonic. Mr H. W. Platts, the second officer of the Waikare, has joined the Poh,erua as chief officer- He will return to Dnnedin, Mr Guy joining the Poherua at Wdlington. Mr Jackson Palmer, Native Land Court Judge, is gazetted President of the Waiariki District Maori Land Council. The Key. F. W. Isitt is visiting Auckland on a three weeks' visit on business in connection with the New Zealand Alliance. Sir William Russell intends to contest his old seat at the forthcoming election, and has no present intention of accepting a seat in the Upper House. Meritorious service medals have been awarded to Sergeant-Major R. G. V. Parker and Sergeant-Artificer John Fox, both of the Royal New Zealand Artillery. The Hon. H. Gourley, who was reelected Chairman of the Otago Harbour Board, probably holds the eoloniaj record, having occupied that position continuously since 1891. The Under-Secretary to the Marine Department, Mr Airport, left Wellington for Auckland yesterday morning. He will join the Hinemoa and inspect a number of the North Island lighthouses, after transacting , some departmental businessMi , Henry Burling, a resident of Waterfalls, 30 miles from Ekatahuna, has reached the age of 103, and still enjoys perfect health. He landed at Port Nicholson in 1842, and had charge of the men -who constructed the road into Wairarapa over the Rimutakas. Mr R. H. Elliott was married at Carterton last week to Mrs Webb, formerly Mrs Gibson, of Greytown. The bride is a sexagenarian, while the bridegroom is 79 years of age, and is an old age pensioner and a former inmate of the Carter Home. Mr E. F. Reynolds, of Coromandel. leaves Auckland by the Sierra on Friday next en route for America for the purpose of realising property in Colorado, U.S.A., left him under the will of his deceased brother.
