WAIHI NEWS.
(By Telegraph.—Own Correspondent.) WAIHI, Tuesday. This afteruoou the Mayor and councillors, accompanied by the engineer and town clerk, visited tbe dam two miles up Walmsley's creek, the source from which the town obtains its water supply. The unusual spell of dry weather has been the means of. redu-clujr considerably the water in tho creek which flows into the dam. with the result that the water has never been so low since the water supply was instituted. But, even in driest wcaiher. when the head works scheme is complete. t:he supply will be ample for a much larger population than tin> present. The outcome of the visit will probably result in the Council uud<;rtakhi<; the immediate completion of the head works. There are six oases of scarlet fever in the hospital, two fresh eases haviua beeu admitted this week. Considerable iocal interest is being .taken in the Waihi Horticultural and Industrial Society's first annual show on Saturday next.
