Entries for all events in connection with the Auckland Swimming Club's gala will close to-morrow evening at 0 p.m.. at tihe Amateur Sports Club Rooms, H.M. Arcade. In "our report of the accident on Sunday night by which a lady fell off the ferry boat into the harbour, it was stated that she was rescued by Captain Scott. A correspondent informs us that this is not altogether correct; that Mr Edgar Spiers, letter-carrier, of Onehunga. jumped overboard, and, being in utter darkness, struggled to the boat's side with considerable difficulty with Miss Taylor. The lady was then lifted on the boat by some one on board, whom our correspondent believes was Captain Scott. By this tune Mr Spiers got a knock on the bead, and was sinking, but was rescued in a semi-conscious condition. It is rumoured that Mr John Holmes, whe went Home as a special trade Commissioner of the N.Z. Court some years ago, is to be appointed Commissioner of the Christchurch Exhibition. Our Wellington correspondent states that Mr C. E. Archibald, a senior clerk of the Wellington Land and Surrey Department, who is under orders to take up the position of assistant chief clerk in the Auckland Survey Office, has for many years taken a, lively interest in the volunteer movement, and at the present time he is captain of the Fetoue .Kaxal Aitfltarjr.
