FIRE AT PICTON.
THREE PHOPS BURNED. (By Tetegrapn.—Press Association.) PICTON, this day. A destructive fire occurred early this '* morning. The principle block of ahops c in High-street was totally destroyed. The a fire started in Girling and Co.'s drapery £ establishment, nnd spread to C. Smith's '" drapery shop, and W. Syms' chemist ' shop, all of which were burnt to the . ground. No wind wa* blowing, or 'the Marlhorough "Press"' and the shop of Mr Webster, butcher, would have gone. " Nothing could be saved fro mthe drapers' shops. Mr Syms saved most of his chemicals'. Tlie insurances are: Girling '" and Co.: On stock. £400 in the National and £400 in the New Zealand; building. ~ £20Q in the New Zealand. The stock j was valued at £2200. G. A. Smith and r Co: On stock, £050 in the New Zealand; j building ( owned by Greensill). £250 in r tho New Zealand. Mr f>yms' stock: 5 £200; budding (owned by Greensill), £50, both in the New Zealand Company. 5 Mr Smith estimates his loss on stock at I £1500.
