RAILWAY CROSSING FATALITY.
MAST KILLED AT HAWERA. (By Telegraph :—rress Association.) HAWERA, Thursday. A railway accident took place to-day, resulting in George Rogers, a grocer a assistant,being killed. Deceased was driving a trapload of groceries «,o tlie hospital, and when crossing the railway line the train struck the hi the middle. The man was thrown cen yarda away, his skull being badly fractured, and death was practically instantaneous. The horse was badly injured on the hip. It struggled along lor 200 yards, bleeding profusely, and then dropped dead. The cart was smashed to splinters, the framework being carried on the cowcatcher for 150 yards. There are two very dangerous crossings near the town, the train being hidden from view In a cutting until « emerges at the crossing. The Borough Council has repeatedly petitioned the Railway Department to make an improvement, but without avail.
