HUNTIiY. A special meeting of the Huntly Road Board was held on Saturday, when there were present: Messrs J. P. Bailey, J.P. (chairman), L. B. Harris, jun., R. T-Hft Angus MacKinnon, and the clerk (Mr L. W. Tattley). The object of the meeting was to fix a day for the weekly half-holi-day. After some discussion Wednesday was chosen as the most suitable, and fixed accordingly. Correspondence was read and dealt with as follows:—(1) From the district railway engineer, declining, on behalf of his Department, to repair the fence between the Great South-road and the Waikato River. The clerk was instructed to write and ask him to reconsider his decision, and to point out that when It became necessary for railway construction purposes for the Government to take over the old road, the making of a new road close to the river bank' became imperative; that the public safety demanded the fencing of such road; and that in the Board's opinio- the Government should maintain what they had made compulsory and necessary. (2) From Mr E. S. Wight, regretting his inability to be present at the meeting, and offering the use of a horse and dray for the purpose of carting ashes for use on the footpaths. This offer was received and accepted with thanks. (3) From the Department of Roads, stating that an officer would be sent up to define the road through lot 22, section 463; the expenditure of the grant for Ray-ner's-road would be proceeded with at once; and that the grant of £200 for the Matahura-Ohinewai road should be spent principally on the road at the head of the Matahura Gorge, and asking-the Board to secure land for the much-needed deviation through Mr Hill's property, such land to be secured under the Public Works Act if amicable arrangements could not be made. (4) From Mr M. Keleher Ohinewai, accepting £20 as compensation for the two chains of land required to make a road through his property from the Great South-road to the Waikato River. (5) From, tbe Department of Public' instructing the clerk to see that' any houses in which cases of scarlatina had occurred were properly fumigated, eta Mr A. NeSl, who attended in person, requested the Board to do something to the hill on the road leading to his section. A simUar request was preferred by Mr Patterson, with the result that the chairman and Mr Harris were deputed to examine the roads and report. Mr R. T. Hill gave notice that at next meeting he would move that the motion regulating the Board's hour of meeting be rescinded. The | following accounts were passed for pay-' ment. viz.: Messrs A. Hill, £S 12/- E W Tattley, £7 10/; A. Mulr, £16 12/6;' and Wm. Spiers, £4. ' The local school reopened on Wednesday last with one change in the staff, Miss J. E.
