HARBOUR BOARD MEMBERSHIP.
MEMBERS OF PARLIAMENT NOT. WANTED. At the meeting of the Harbour Board yesterday Mr Philson suggested that they should impress on the Government the" undesirability of appointing members of Parliament to the Board. He thought that the Premier should be telegraphed to, in view of the fact that the appointment would be made pn Monday. The business of the Board was neglected owing to the fact that members of Parliament were on it. Tbe argument had always been used that members of Parliament could do a great deal for the Board. That was a great mistake. They could do as much as members of Parliament as they could as members of the Board. For the reason that for four or five months I members of Parliament were absent in Wellington the Board was deprived of the assistance of perhaps a valuable man in its deliberations. He moved that the Premier be communicated with on the matter. Mr Glover seconded, and the motion was adopted without, dissent.
