Thfi Auckland Carters' Union, considering that the reference filed by the employees with reference to their dispute was informal, have filed another reference with the Clerk of Awards. The union demands that the minimum wage for competent general carters driving and attending one horse be £2 5/ per week: driving and attending two horses, £2 9/ per week; driving and attending three horsea, £2 12/ per week; that casual carters be paid 1/3 per hour, and after 10i hours' work on any day 1/G an hour; that employers pay carters working on holidays at the rate of time and a-half, whether for weekly or casual carters; double rates on Sundays, Good Friday, and Christmas Day; that no employment terminate without a week's notice; preference to unionists. It is stated that the dispute will go direct to the Arbitration Court. One hundred and three employers have been cited.
