UNIVERSITY SENATE.

The Senate continued its meeting yesterday afternoon. The Science Committee recommended formally that effect should be given to the changes in the degree courses as resolved. The course for the new degree of Master of Science was also outlined. The report was adopted. The Music Committee's recommendations were adopted, but the suggestion from Dr. Thomas that Italian should be a subject was deferred. The reports of the Literature, Ad Eundem, and Preliminary Examination Committees were adopted. ENGLISH EXAMINERS. The English Examiners' Committee this morning recommended the Senate that the following lists of names of examiners to be invited by the agent in order in ■which they are placed:— Mathematics: H. F. Baker, Sc-D., F.R.S., St. John's College, Cambridge; C. Smith, M.A., Master of Sidney Sussex College, Cambridge; W. M. Hicks, ScD., F.RJS-, Principal of University College, Sheffield; S. L. Loney, M.A., Royal Holloway College for Women, Egham; W. H. H. Hudson, late Professor King's College, London. History: Professor Tout, Manchester; Professor Lodge, Edinburgh; Professor Mackay, Liverpool. Music: Sir F. J. Bridge, Mus. D.; Sir A. C. Mackenzie. Education: J. Adams, Principal of the London Day Training College; Professor M. E. Sadler, M.A., LL.B. (Columbia), Manchester; Professor J. J. Findlay, M.A., PhJJ. (Leipzig), Manchester. The Rev. J. F. Andrew moved that the report should be adopted, and commented on the rise of Manchester in education. ALTERATIONS. Professor F. D. Brown was to move in the Senate this morning: "That candidates for B.A. and B.Se. degrees be allowed to sit for examination in two of the subjects for their first section after having kept one year's terms." It was agreed, however, to defer consideration of this matter till the meeting of the next Senate. Mr Hogben moved, that during the recess a committee should draw up a revised scheme for the Senior Scholarships. The motion was loat on the voices.
